Woman Follows Her Dogs’ Warnings — And Finds Pleading Eyes Inside A Duct-Taped Crate

One evening, Carla Stowe was at home when her dogs began barking urgently, as if trying to tell her something. Curious and concerned, Stowe — president of Baby Gunn’s Animal Rescue — grabbed a flashlight and stepped into her yard.

Her beam of light soon caught something unusual in the grass: a yellow crate, sealed shut with duct tape and zip ties.

As she drew closer, Stowe realized she wasn’t alone. From inside the crate, a pair of desperate eyes stared back at her.

“I could see his eyes, but I wasn’t sure what was in the crate,” Stowe recalled.

Then she heard it — the steady thumping of a tail, wagging in hope.

Wasting no time, Stowe cut through the tape and zip ties, swinging open the crate’s door. Out came a friendly pit bull, finally free after who knows how long.

“When I realized it was a pit bull, my heart sank,” Stowe said.

The thought that someone had abandoned such a sweet dog in this way broke her heart — but she was also relieved he was safe now, with a second chance ahead of him.

The dog, later named RD, is now in the care of Baby Gunn’s Animal Rescue. Slowly, he’s adjusting to his new surroundings, meeting other dogs, and learning to trust again.

“He is slowly adjusting,” Stowe shared. “We’ve introduced him to a few of the others that reside here.”

Once RD is fully ready, he’ll be available for adoption — this time into a family that will never let him down.

“His future will be a bright one,” Stowe said.
