Lonely Cat Hears Tapping at the Window — and Finally Meets Her Perfect Match

Nonna, an affectionate 11-year-old house cat, has just one wish: to find a friend of her own.

Despite her best efforts, her younger feline housemate, Stevie, hasn’t exactly been a willing playmate. And the occasional visits from a friend’s cat never seem to last long enough.

For a while, it seemed Nonna’s search for companionship would end in disappointment.

But one quiet day, that all changed — with a gentle tap on the window.

Hayley Friel, Nonna’s mom, was relaxing in the living room when she heard the soft, rhythmic tapping. “I thought it was just leaves or maybe a squirrel,” she told The Dodo. But when she looked up, she couldn’t believe her eyes.

Peering in through the glass was the tiniest rabbit she’d ever seen — looking as if she were trying to come inside.

“I was completely stunned,” Friel said. “It was like she came to visit.”

Curious about the unexpected guest, both cats moved closer — but it was Nonna who rushed to the window, face-to-face with the baby bunny.

You can watch their first encounter here:

The two animals simply stared at each other, calm and unafraid. In that moment, something special sparked.

Stevie hung back, but Nonna stayed glued to the window until the bunny eventually hopped away.

The next day, the tapping returned. The bunny was back — and Nonna was ready. “She pawed at the glass and followed her along the window,” Friel recalled. It was like watching two kindred spirits, separated by a pane of glass.

Their connection deepened over the next few days, until one afternoon, Friel noticed the bunny curled up sleeping in her garden bed. It was a heart-melting sight — until hours later, when Friel returned to check on the bunny and instead found a snake in her place.

Fearing the worst, Friel anxiously scanned the yard in the days that followed. When she later spotted a much larger rabbit hopping through, she wondered: could it be the bunny’s mother?

Still, there was no sign of the baby. That is, until a full week later.

“I was in my office on the far side of the house and suddenly heard that same tapping again,” Friel said. “I rushed to the door — and there she was!”

The baby bunny had returned, just as brave and curious as before. And Nonna, delighted beyond words, resumed her usual spot at the window — tail flicking, eyes wide, heart full.

Now that summer is in full swing, Friel hopes the bunny will keep visiting — for her wildlife-loving household, and most of all, for Nonna.

“Nonna desperately wants a friend,” Friel said. “It’s so sweet to see her light up when the bunny appears.”

Sometimes, friendship comes from the most unexpected places — even through a window.
