It was a quiet evening in Los Angeles when Maribel Colindres received an unexpected alert from her Ring camera. Curious, she checked the footage — and saw a small, shaggy creature scampering up her driveway.
“She looked just like an Ewok,” wrote Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, in a Facebook post.
The mysterious animal briefly disappeared under Colindres' car but returned hours later, just as the sun began to rise. That’s when Colindres realized the visitor wasn’t a woodland creature — it was a tiny, frightened dog.
Determined to help, Colindres began asking neighbors if anyone recognized the pup. Sadly, she discovered the heartbreaking truth: the little dog had been dumped in the neighborhood a month earlier.
“She’d been surviving alone, hiding under cars during cold, lonely nights,” Hall shared. “Even tiny Ewok lookalikes get abandoned.”
Though the dog was clearly scared and wouldn’t let anyone near her, Colindres was undeterred. She began leaving food on her driveway, hoping to build trust.
“She came like clockwork, twice a day between 6 and 7 p.m.,” Hall wrote.
With a routine established, Colindres reached out to Hall, who specializes in rescues. Hall arrived just before the pup’s usual visit and set up a humane trap. Then, they waited.
“At exactly 6:40 p.m., there she was — right on schedule,” Hall recalled. “She walked right into the trap like it was meant to be. It was incredible.”

Finally safe, the tiny pup was whisked away to Camino Pet Hospital for care. Inspired by her Ewok-like appearance and bravery, Hall gave her a fitting new name: Princess Leia.
After a warm bath, a fresh haircut, and a clean bill of health, Princess Leia looked like a completely different dog.
“She got the royal treatment — a full princess makeover,” Hall said.
Leia is now thriving in her foster home, where her playful spirit is shining through.
“She zooms around like crazy, then curls up to nap under her foster’s foot,” Hall said. “She’s silly, sweet, and finally safe.”
Princess Leia is still looking for her forever family — but for now, she’s surrounded by love and care, and her once-lost sparkle has returned.
“[The] poor baby was so dirty and had so many stickers on her fur, but look at her now,” Hall wrote. “[There’s] a complete sparkle in her eyes.”
