Dog Attends Local Race, Has No Regrets About Skipping the Running Part

At 6 years old, Ollie the dog has life figured out: attention from strangers? Yes, please. Tasty snacks? Absolutely. Exercise? Hard pass.

“Ollie’s not really a fan of walking,” his mom, Crystal Uvalle, said. “We often have to coax or even drag him out the door. But car rides? He’s always ready. He knows the difference somehow.”

His dislike of movement is so pronounced that when the family plans longer walks, they bring his wagon along — not as a backup, but as a necessity.

“When he’s done, he’s done,” Uvalle said. “He goes completely limp, and carrying his 48-pound potato body is not easy.”

Recently, when the Great Race — a 5K/10K supporting amyloidosis research — passed through their Pittsburgh neighborhood, Ollie tagged along with his humans.

They brought the wagon, of course, and a hilarious sign inspired by an Olivia Rodrigo lyric: a cheeky nod to Ollie’s aversion to running.

The sign was a hit.

“People saw it and laughed — lots of ‘Same here!’ comments,” Uvalle said.

As runners dashed by, Ollie sat proudly in his wagon, watching the spectacle unfold. But instead of being impressed, he was mostly puzzled — and maybe a little insulted.

“He was trying to jump out to greet people,” Uvalle said. “He’s used to soaking up attention wherever he goes, so I think he was a little sad no one was stopping to pet him.”

Of course, once the race ended and people noticed the adorable, sign-holding pup in the wagon, Ollie got all the love and head scratches he craved. In his mind, petting him was clearly the better way to spend a Sunday morning anyway.

Ollie may not be a runner, but he’s definitely a scene-stealer — and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
