Alone and exhausted, a thin brown-and-white dog wandered aimlessly down a quiet Iowa street, her strength nearly gone. With no one to care for her and nowhere to turn, she finally curled up under a bush, unable to take another step.
That might’ve been the end of her story — but fate had other plans.
A young man named Marshall Neuzil happened to spot her fragile frame beneath the leaves. Realizing she needed immediate help, he called his father, Jeremy, a volunteer with It Takes A Village, a local animal rescue. The family wasted no time springing into action.
“When Marshall told his dad about the emaciated dog who had made her way to their yard, this family didn’t hesitate to help,” the rescue later shared.
They gently brought the pup to safety and rushed her to Muscatine Veterinary Hospital, where she received the urgent care she desperately needed. Her condition was heartbreaking, but her spirit was still intact.
The rescue team decided it was only right for Marshall — the one who found her — to give her a name. He chose Luna.
From the hospital, Luna began her recovery journey through a series of foster homes. Each stop gave her a little more strength, a little more love, and a fresh start.
Eventually, she was placed with a dedicated foster family who worked patiently to help her heal — not just physically, but emotionally too.
“She had to be taught how to manage her impulses and practice self-control,” the rescue explained. “But she never stopped trying.”
Weeks turned into months, and Luna blossomed. The once-starving stray had transformed into a joyful, affectionate companion — and soon, she met the family that would become her forever home.
“When Luna met her adoptive family, it was clear she had finally found her place,” the rescue shared. “She was home.”
Now, Luna lives the life every dog deserves: safe, loved, and full of hope. And the team at It Takes A Village couldn’t be more thankful to everyone who helped her get there.
