Tiny Dog Clings To Shopping Cart In Raging Canal Until Heroes Save Her

While walking near a canal in Arizona, a Good Samaritan noticed something strange — a shopping cart stranded in the middle of the rushing water.

Looking closer, she realized someone was clinging desperately to it.

Perched on top of the cart was a tiny senior Chihuahua mix, later named Dorthea, hanging on for her life. Time was running out.

Without hesitation, the Good Samaritan contacted the Arizona Humane Society (AHS), who quickly called in backup from the Phoenix Fire Department.

Together, the teams raced to save Dorthea. Using a ladder and rescue equipment, they carefully inched the shopping cart closer to the canal’s edge.

Once close enough, they secured the terrified pup and safely lifted her to dry ground. As soon as Dorthea realized she was safe, her tail started wagging uncontrollably.

“We are beyond grateful for the quick actions of our incredible Field Team and the Phoenix Fire Department who worked together to give this sweet pup a second chance at life,” AHS shared on TikTok.

Dorthea was rushed into the AHS ambulance for an initial medical checkup. She was filthy, dehydrated, hungry, and covered in ticks — but miraculously, she had no major injuries.

She was then taken to AHS’ Lazin Animal Foundation Trauma Hospital for a full exam and much-needed TLC.

Besides needing some minor dental work, Dorthea’s health issues were mostly superficial. Despite her ordeal, she remained sweet and eager to soak up affection from her new friends.

No one knows how Dorthea ended up stranded in the canal, but she was incredibly lucky to have been found just in time.

After a month of recovery — filled with cuddles, attention, and care — Dorthea was adopted by a loving family in Youngtown, Arizona.

Now, she’s finally living the life she’s always deserved, all thanks to the kindness of strangers and the determination of her rescuers.

“Miracles do happen,” AHS wrote.
