Most of us can agree—abandoning a dog without food or water is already an act of heartless cruelty. But what one commuter discovered on his way to work was far worse.
In a horrifying scene on a roadside in Missouri, a helpless dog was found not just abandoned, but tied so tightly with an electrical cord that he was barely breathing—struggling for life.
David Fredman was driving to work when something out of the corner of his eye made him slam on the brakes. What he saw stopped him cold.
“I saw what looked like a dog being hung over the side of a power box,” David told Fox News.
“The cord was definitely strangling him. His feet were barely touching the ground. He was whipping his head back and forth, trying to breathe, trying to survive.”
Without hesitation, David called the police, then grabbed something from his car to cut the dog free. Every second counted.
“As soon as I cut him down, he collapsed. He couldn’t breathe. He tried to walk, but he just couldn’t,” David recalled.
Not willing to leave the dog’s fate to chance, David scooped him up and rushed him to KC Pet Project, a local animal shelter in Kansas City.
That’s where the miracle happened.
The shelter staff scanned for a microchip and found one. The dog, named Max, had a family who had been frantically searching for him for two agonizing days.
When Max was finally reunited with his owner, Dee Vaughn, there were tears of relief and gratitude. Dee later invited David to his home to personally thank him for his heroic act.
“Thank you, David, so much,” Dee said, full of emotion. “You stopped what you were doing to save my dog’s life.”
Thanks to David’s quick thinking and kind heart, Max is safe at home again. But questions remain—who would do such a thing?
