Obesity in dogs is one of the fastest growing health concerns for dogs today. According to the CDC approximately one-third of adults in the United States are obese and the trend towards obesity appears to be worsening. Veterinarians are noticing a corresponding increase in the prevalence of dog obesity.
Just as in people, obesity in dogs is associated with various health problems such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, osteoarthritis, cardiopulmonary disease, hypertension and various types of neoplasia such as mammary cancer and transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder.

I have been on “Light” dog food since I switched from puppy. I average 45-47 lbs. I get lots of exercise, not too many treats ( my food is compensated).
I AM big boned, I like to see other Corgis on here that are as big as me, I show my human’s all the time, so they will not starve me, cause it seems like they are starving me!

Treats are for training. After puppy stage, treats are not necessary. Dogs need plenty of water & exercise. Too much weight causes other health problems

My chi/min pin mix started having extreme muscle problems. I knew he was fat but when I put him on a scale he came in at 18 pounds. It was diet time. He is now a much happier healthier 7 pounds. It was so easy to let him gain the weight and while he still acts like he’s being starved after 4 years of limiting his intake, he hasn’t had any muscle problems and is so much more active and playful
