20 Things All Shih Tzu Owners Must Never Forget

James Mumsford, an American teacher and composer, perhaps described the Shih Tzu best:

Nobody knows how the ancient eunuchs managed to mix together: a dash of lion, several teaspoons of rabbit, a couple of ounces of domestic cat, one part court jester, a dash of ballerina, a pinch of old man, a bit of beggar, a tablespoon of monkey, one part baby seal, a dash of teddy bear, and, for the rest, dogs of Tibetan and Chinese origin.

It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, Shih Tzu's are no exception!

But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all Shih Tzu owners must never forget.

If we want to pay back the favor and give them the best life possible, these 20 important reminders should serve you well as awesome Shih Tzu owners. The last one (#20) brought me to tears…

  1. I have had 2 Lhasa Apsos, a close cousin to the Shih Tzu, we loved our boy (Yeti) very, very much and think about the life we shared daily. Now I have a sweet little girl (Ruby) who has turned 13. My wife and I rejoice every day we are blessed with her.

  2. I have a Shih Tzu Max. I love him so much! He’s the best dog I’ve ever had. One thing I don’t agree with is where they say Shih Tzu’s don’t speak your language or something to that effect. Max seems to understand everything I say! Shih Tzu’s are very smart. I still have tears in my eyes from reading number 20. I knew I should have skipped that one!

  3. This is my baby Taesho Pie 6 years old tomorrow. He had a stroke 6 months ago and is a little lop sided now, bless him. But he’s doing well. And is really really loved. He is one of 4. I love Shih Tzu ‘s . It helps with costs that I’m a dog groomer.

  4. I don’t think I can do the dog thing when my baby dog is gone. I really think he was the one for me. I never understood how people could gush over their pets. He makes me get it!!! I love him. Bulging eye and all.

  5. I cried my eyes out on number 20, as I remember the pain in my heart as I held my sweet Destiny on his final journey. He died of leukemia at the age of 6. He carried me through the most terrible part of my life (an auto accident), and the only way I could repay him was to be by his side when he had to leave. But these “rules” are true of any dog/human relationship. You are the one who has the privilege of having a dog for a friend.

  6. My sweet JuJu – 16 years old, blind and deaf half Shih Tzu half Yorkie. Would not trade her for the world. This dog is my life! It amazes me how she gets around the house, finds her food and water, finds the doggie door to go outside, finds her way back to the doggie door to get back inside – very smart dog. Love, Love, Love my JuJu!

  7. My Peaches is the smartest dog I have ever had and she does speak to me, and understands sooo many words that it is amazing. She never leaves my side and I would never leave her regardless of her age or health. My heart and soul is Peaches.
