20 Things All Labrador Owners Must Never Forget

One of the best dogs for children of all ages, Labrador Retrievers are kindly, good-natured, and take most things in stride.

Most Labrador Retrievers are very friendly with everyone, though compared to Golden Retrievers, many Labs are just a bit more conservative with their affections.

It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, Labrador Retrievers are no exception!

But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all Lab owners must never forget.

If we want to pay back the favor and give them the best life possible, these 20 important reminders should serve you well as awesome Labrador owners. The last one (#20) brought me to tears…

  1. How very true and not just for labs but all dogs. I have always been there for my dogs for their final journey. I hold their paw and pet them and give them a kiss goodbye. And we do everything else with them too. Walks playing cuddles etc. my lab I have now is my baby and I love him so much. He’s the best dog/friend

  2. Shocking how crystal clear is a kids’ perception..and pure…have to say this…”I wasn’t there, my eternal love, but I ‘ll always love you, carry your love with me and always remember you”…forever

  3. In Sept. 15, I had to help my 12 yo Nikka cross over. She had lost her vision, which we all adjusted to. However we could not get her pain under control. Over 3 years, I had to help 3 dogs cross over Rainbow Bridge, and each time I doubted I had the strength to take on another rescue. But now I have 2, and my Labbie, Abbey, I am training to be my service dog as Nikka had been. Be strong, and giver them the love they have given to you, and the trust they have put in you. Accept that the pain will be there, but that it is the right thing to do, as they have trusted you most of their lives. God bless you, and be with you as the end approaches. Give your Loki what he loves as snacks that last week – they will not hurt him, and he will know that you love him. Nikka we gave several cheese burgers, and she rode on my lap to the vet, who she loved.

  4. We lost our Yellow lab last November to cancer. He was a rescue that loved us as much as we loved him for 12 years. I still miss him to this day ! But I reflect on what he has taught me about life such as acceptance and unconditional love ! My thoughts are with you Ed…….

  5. My lab is almost 15 she has Addison’s disease for last 2yr of her life she has been most loviing kind loyal exceptional lab ever I will miss her terribly wen she has to go but will be with her every step if the way my girlie means the world to me 🙂

  6. So many sad stories of everyone’s pups passing on so I’ll cheer everyone up. This is my best mate Leo, he’s 4 months and just graduated puppy training, he’s now the poster boy for it

  7. They definitely take a piece of your heart and 2 yrs later I still grieve for my beautiful girl Megan, I always will, even writing this I’m tearing up, so sorry for your loss of Jess, she’s a beautiful girl also xx

  8. Lynn Kirkwood Thankyou and so sorry for your loss.I too don’t think I will ever get over the loss of Jess and just seeing a black lab can reduce me to tears. I hope that eventually my heart will feel strong enough to have another, not as a replacement but because they will hopefully also enrich my life the way my Jess did.x
