Curious, lively, charming, and brave, Dachshunds are similar to terriers in their demands to be in on everything.
The comical clowns love to play games and have a great sense of humor. They are loyal little dogs, very attached to their family, and they firmly believe that sleeping under the bedcovers is in the Dachshund Bill of Rights.
It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, Dachshunds are no exception!
But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all Doxie owners must never forget.
If we want to pay back the favor and give them the best life possible, these 20 important reminders should serve you well as awesome Wiener dog owners. The last one (#20) brought me to tears…
Check out the 20 Things All Dachshund Owners Must Never Forget on the next page:

My first Dachsund, Maggie, was literally thrust upon me. At 3 months old, she was in her second home, and that lady had a toddler. The child got too rough with the itty-bitty dachsund, and said dog bit aforementioned child. This woman, a coworker of mine at that time, was “going to take that damned dog to the pound”….. I said I’d take the dog…. Best thing I ever did. When Maggie passed away, it hit me harder than I’d have anticipated….. So I went and got Ruffles, my current long hair Doxy… what a pleasure she is, too.

Hey guys, my 13 month old dachshund mix could really use some help right now. She was hit by a car going between 50-55mph this weekend and somehow made it through – but now she needs surgery to repair her leg so she can have a chance at walking again. I know it’s a long shot but if anyone could donate or share our page, I would appreciate it so much. Poor girl loves to run around and bury herself in things and we just want her back to normal before her human sister gets here in October!

I love my little guy with all my heart. We go swimming during the summer and runs during the winter/fall. I try to make a trip to the pet store once a week to get him a new chew or ball. He snuggles with me every night and kisses me until his tongue is dry.

This post is so true. I have two little monsters and can say I go through all of the statements in this post, my dogs ‘talk’ to me with their eyes, gestures and expressions and are one of the major highs of my life. As for the last statement ….. when they go, my heart will be shattered to pieces. Love you so much, my darling babies. xx mummy.

Me, too. Especially the last one, because I know people who chose not to be with their pet in the end. For me, that is the final act of love I can give that pet.

Well said Jann Hughes! I’m glad my Lucy went in my arms, close to my heart and that she went before me. Leaving her behind in my death was a terrifying thought to me. Noone would love her like I did. Ladane Callahan hope this helped.

My longhair, Ruffles, was attacked by a hawk one day… tore her chest wide open. The Vet did surgery and inserted 2 chest tubes. After she was home and the hubbub died down, the emotion hit me. Today, at 7+ years old, she is a real bright spot for us.

They are great survivors Sherman, Otto, the male, had a crumbled vertebrae, which meant two operations, 3 weeks in hospital and a 3 month physiotherapy. We were told that it was 50/50 chance of him lasting more than a year. This was in 2010 and with intense care and love, he is still with us and he is living a full life.
