Oh Chihuahuas… the smallest breed of dog named for the state of Chihuahua in Mexico, that has become one of the most popular of all dog breeds in the United States (and among celebrities)…
Is it because of being the world's smallest dog yet having the world's biggest personality stashed inside that tiny body? That larger-than-life persona that makes him appealing to men and women alike? or all of the above?
Fun and busy, Chihuahuas like nothing better than to be close to their people. They follow them everywhere in the house and ride along in tote bags when their people run errands or go shopping.
It's not unusual for Chihuahuas to form a close bond with a single person, and they can become very demanding if they're overindulged.
But as popular as they’ve become, you might be shocked to know that they are the worst dogs to live with… and there are 19 reasons for it.
Check out the 19 reasons why Chihuahuas are the worst dogs to live with on the next page:

I have one, he counts for 10. Totally adorable, loving and a lot of other positive things. His one downside is that he can’t stop chasing the cat, if that could end he’d be perfect. 🙂

Chihuahuas get such a bad rep but they are some of the most intelligent dogs there is. They’re extremely loyal and protective – small, but mighty and fearless. I was never a dog person unless my Chi-Chi found me and I could ask for a better friend than her. Plus, they’re cute and let you love ’em like babies.

They do love to chase cats (mine used to chase lizards, birds and squirrels.) When I first brought my girl home, she chased my cats for a good few months, but with a lot of positive reinforcement when she was around the cats (and not chasing them) she started to learn to respect their space and that they need my love, too. Training these little dogs is quite easy no matter their age. Good luck with your Chi!

Christine Sholl, thank you. I told my vet last week and she said he’s extremely dominant and about chasing the cat she said it’s his hunting instinct. I recently moved to a new place where they come in contact with eachother more frequently. Let’s hope Marley, my Chi, will finally start to understand that chasing the cat is useless.

Also, he just turned 1 last month, perhaps as he gets older he’ll get calmer. He even chases cats, pigeons, seagulls when i’m out with him. But as i said, that’s about his only real downside. He was easily house trained, i didn’t have to correct him much with that but i also take him out and with me as much as possible. In october he’ll have surgery for luxating patella. Poor boy. I’m waiting till then because summer will be over then and the weather won’t be so good anymore so he won’t be able to go for long walks and play much outside.
