Cocker Spaniels are dogs belonging to two breeds of the spaniel dog type: the American Cocker Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel, both of which are commonly called simply Cocker Spaniel in their countries of origin.
The American Cocker Spaniel is a breed of sporting dog. It is a spaniel type dog that is closely related to the English Cocker Spaniel; the two breeds diverged during the 20th century due to differing breed standards in America and the UK. Some of the words that describe the temperament of an American Cocker Spaniel are: Outgoing, Even Tempered, Merry, Joyful, Trusting, Sociable.
The English Cocker Spaniel is a breed of gun dog. The English Cocker Spaniel is an active, good-natured, sporting dog standing well up at the withers and compactly built. There are “field” or “working” cockers and “show” cockers. Some of the words that describe the temperament of an English Cocker Spaniel are: Playful, Faithful, Friendly, Quiet, Affectionate, Trainable.

I agree…Don’t get a Cocker Spaniel. Then, I can have them ALL!!! We LOVE Cocker Spaniels. They are sweet, funny, loving, content and everything in between. But, they sure are hard to find. We lost our two Cocker Spaniel sisters last year and my Husband wanted another Cocker. I had a hard time finding one. But, we did. Mollie Mae joined our family last year. She is full of P and V. But, we love her. She makes us laugh every day. <3
