Cocker Spaniels are dogs belonging to two breeds of the spaniel dog type: the American Cocker Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel, both of which are commonly called simply Cocker Spaniel in their countries of origin.
The American Cocker Spaniel is a breed of sporting dog. It is a spaniel type dog that is closely related to the English Cocker Spaniel; the two breeds diverged during the 20th century due to differing breed standards in America and the UK. Some of the words that describe the temperament of an American Cocker Spaniel are: Outgoing, Even Tempered, Merry, Joyful, Trusting, Sociable.
The English Cocker Spaniel is a breed of gun dog. The English Cocker Spaniel is an active, good-natured, sporting dog standing well up at the withers and compactly built. There are “field” or “working” cockers and “show” cockers. Some of the words that describe the temperament of an English Cocker Spaniel are: Playful, Faithful, Friendly, Quiet, Affectionate, Trainable.
Do you think you can handle this breed?
Cocker Spaniels may be widely known to be sociable and playful, but there are reasons why you should NEVER allow them into your family. You’d be simply crazy to even consider it!

If you look at the reasons and the associated pictures you realize the statement isn’t serious. It means the opposite. We have two now which being the total to five we have had over the last 25 years. Without a doubt they are the BEST sweetest pets in the world! Doug McCras

Look at the pictures and you will realize it is meant to show how great they are. They actually mean the opposite. The pictures. With each reason show that. 🙂

So gorgeous. I had an email from the lady today asking if I would be interested in an older dog – 2 years old – goldie as apparently he is a show dog and has gotten too tall for showing. I said I was not adverse to the idea but after further discussion via email she said I would probably be better off with a puppy. I told her I wanted the dog for a pet and companion and was not interested in breeding or showing.
Also was just wondering if they have ear trouble with their long ears.
