Cocker Spaniels are dogs belonging to two breeds of the spaniel dog type: the American Cocker Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel, both of which are commonly called simply Cocker Spaniel in their countries of origin.

The American Cocker Spaniel is a breed of sporting dog. It is a spaniel type dog that is closely related to the English Cocker Spaniel; the two breeds diverged during the 20th century due to differing breed standards in America and the UK. Some of the words that describe the temperament of an American Cocker Spaniel are: Outgoing, Even Tempered, Merry, Joyful, Trusting, Sociable.

The English Cocker Spaniel is a breed of gun dog. The English Cocker Spaniel is an active, good-natured, sporting dog standing well up at the withers and compactly built. There are “field” or “working” cockers and “show” cockers. Some of the words that describe the temperament of an English Cocker Spaniel are: Playful, Faithful, Friendly, Quiet, Affectionate, Trainable.

    Glad I looked at this before I commented as I was all ready to have ago at who ever it was that said never own a spaniel…I own a spaniel for ten years and she was my best friend that was so loveable and kind..she past away 9 months ago and miss her so much…….glad this was a joke..
