The dog they have all chosen to represent their tough, tenacious characters. That dog? Why, it's the Bulldog, of course!

It descended from fighting mastiffs that were brought to the British Isles by the Romans and was used in a bloody sport called bullbaiting.

Today, however, the Bulldog only slightly resembles his ancestors in appearance. And all of the ferociousness that he exhibited in the bullbaiting pens? Gone for good.

Despite his still ferocious appearance, you'd be hard-pressed to find a dog with a sweeter, more loving disposition. They are friendly, social, calm, balanced, compassionate, stubborn, proud and persevering.

    Gertie is my second English Bulldog. . My first Olivia I loved like a child too. She died in my arms of a massive heart attack at 7 yrs old. I got her at a pet shop. I would never recommend that to anyone. She had entropia of the eyelid where her lower eyelid curved inward and the eyelashes constantly scratched her eye. A pretty common thing in bulldogs. It cost me over $2000.00 to operate. My current one Olivia I got from a reputable breeder. I saw the Mom and Dad. She’s every bit the princess Olivia was. I love them more than words can say. Gertie is healthy alittle over-weight but we’re working on that. She rules our house.

    Have to agree with lois. I have an OEB who just turned 1. Im lucky i love him so much because we are literally at the vet 1-2 times a month. He has a very sensitive tummy that 1 small change in diet gives him diarrhea for days, he also has allergies.
