Vet Pleads For Dogs Back After They Went Missing & Got Adopted By Another Family

A veteran from Jacksonville, Florida, is now pleading for the return of his beloved dogs after they went missing and then were adopted by another family.

William Ptak is a widower and lives alone, so his five-year-old French poodle Mignon and nine-month-old Pit bull mix Cerbere are his entire world and are like his children.

But his whole world came crashing down after his dog sitter called him and told him the two dogs ran off after the front gate was left open.

Ptak looked everywhere for his furry best friends, including local shelters and the Jacksonville Humane Society, but to no avail.

He then turned to social media and posted photos of them in the hopes that someone would find them and recognize them.

A woman then commented on his post and said she saw the dogs’ pictures on the Jacksonville Humane Society’s website.

The dogs were given new names, Champion and Athena, and had actually been adopted by two different families.

Ptak’s heart sunk into his stomach.

The Humane Society only holds strays for seven days before they’re put up for adoption. Unfortunately, Ptak found them too late.

The Humane Society reached out to one of the adoptive families, who agreed to give one of the dogs back, but then they changed his mind.

Ptak is now back to square one and is holding on to hope that he’ll one day be reunited with Mignon and Cerbere again.

“I just hope and pray that these people have a little bit of understanding and allow me to get my dogs back,” Ptak told News 4 Jax.

An attorney said that there is unfortunately not much Ptak can do legally to get his dogs back, and his best bet would be to try to get ahold of the owners to see if they’ll allow him to buy back his dogs.

Ptak said he will do whatever it takes to bring his furry family members back home, and he is not going to give up.
