Two-Legged Stray Mother Cares For Her Homeless Family

We know animals are resilient, and many times they adapt to their environment and survive as best as they can. After all, there are millions of homeless dogs in the world that struggle every day to find food and shelter, but it amazes us how homeless dogs with disabilities are also able to thrive and survive life on the streets.

In China, there is a two-legged stray that has given birth to puppies, and even with her disability she still cares for her family and makes sure none of her puppies are in harm’s way.

The momma is known as Shi Bao, and she wasn’t always homeless. Her owner abandoned her and she took refuge near Kouguan railway station in Datong, Shanxi Province. Unfortunately she lost her hind legs in an accident. Locals believe she was either hit by a car or run over by a train, but either way, she survived and has been fending for herself ever since.

Shi Bao recently gave birth to healthy, beautiful puppies. Every day, the two-legged momma guides her babies around the train station while they scavenge for food. The heroic mom makes sure her children are always near her and far from harm.

We know animals in China are not as well protected by laws as other animals in other countries, but we hope that Shi Bao and her babies find a good Samaritan or animal rescue organization that would take them in put an end to their lonely and harsh days on the streets. All animals deserve a loving home and Shi Bao has proved she is worthy of true love and a happily ever after.

UPDATE: Shi Bao, the Two-Legged Dog and Her Puppies Get Rescued

Back in February, we told you the story of Shi Bao, the Chinese homeless dog, that only has her two front legs, and who had given birth to puppies in the Kouguan railway station in Datong city, China. After the story made world-wide headlines, various animal rescue groups came together to rescue the disabled momma dog and her puppies.

Shi Boa had an owner and a home before being abandoned on the streets, but once was discarded, the dog had to fend for herself. Unfortunately, she lost her hind legs two years ago in an accident. Locals believe a train or a car ran her over.

Animal lovers all over the world came together to rescue the street dog and her babies and now the family is safe at Datong Meilian Zhonghe Veterinary Hospital.

According to AnimalsAsia.org, two of  Shi Bao’s four puppies did not survive. They suffered from distemper and unfortunately died. A third puppy is critically ill, but rescuers hope the young dog would pull through, and the fourth one is healthy and eating on its own.

The two-legged momma dog has already found an adoptive family. Jill Robinson, founder and CEO of Animals Asia decided to welcome Shi Bao as a member of her own family. And what’s more, the two surviving puppies have also found forever homes.

The healthy puppy will go to a family in Norway and if the critically ill dog survives, he will go to a loving family in Toronto, Canada.

“Shi Bao is a great mother,” said local veterinarian Mr. Xue. “Though the last two babies are still weak, we are all doing our best to help them survive and live healthy and happy lives.”

Staff members at Datong Meilian Zhonghe Veterinary Hospital, where the pets are being cared for, say Shi Bao is very friendly and is happy to be receiving the love and care she had been lacking for the past two years.

We wish Shi Bao and her babies the best and are glad to see that they are getting the happily-ever-after ending they deserve.

  1. Poor dog having to suffer like that for two years and shame on her owner for just abandoning her and making her survive on her own. My heart goes out to this precious dog and her sweet puppies,,,,amazing mother she is. Bless her heart and her puppies and bless those who finally stepped up and saved her and the remaining puppies and they will now finally get the home and love they deserve and bless the poor puppies who didn’t survive.

  2. As always I’m praying for the best for her and her puppies the ones that survived she is certainly a true blessing she has more love and caring in her heart than some women do she deserves the world
