Hope For Paws founder and rescuer Eldad Hagar was in for a unique surprise when he got the call about a homeless dog lurking around in a nursery in Los Angeles.
He rushed with his rescue team to get her, but the dog’s unwillingness to be rescued caught them off-guard.

The dog, called Petunia, seemed sweet, but straight away refused to come to the rescuers, even when she was offered food. Eldad tried reaching out to her, but she ran and hid under one of the vehicles.
Eldad went in to have a closer look and found that she was lactating! Sure enough, the rescue team searched the surrounding area to find Petunia’s tiny newborn baby, shivering in a nearby ditch.

The rescuers tried coaxing Petunia to take them to her other puppies, but it seemed that she had just one. They took the Terrier-Poodle mix puppy and the mother to the veterinarian. Petunia was treated for an ear infection and her baby girl, Petal, was doing well.

We are so glad that the mother-daughter pair has fully recovered and are living safely off the streets. The duo was eventually homed together. We are completely moved by Hope For Paws’ tireless efforts to help strays survive!
