Stanley the Chihuahua was locked inside a crate and abandoned on Route 80 in New Jersey while cars sped by.
He was petrified, severely overweight, disabled, and completely helpless.
Thankfully, animal control picked him up and brought him to their facility. He was now in a safer place, but it wasn’t much better.
He was now in a kennel, with barking dogs around him. Due to his weight, he was unable to move around on his own.
As soon as Ramapo-Bergen Animal Rescue in Oakland heard about Stanley, they agreed to take him in and get him medical care as soon as possible.

Stanley, who is estimated to be around eight years old, weighs more than twice what he should and all four of his legs are extremely deformed, which has made him immobile. He weighs 21 pounds when he should weigh under ten pounds.
Stanley was placed into a foster home, where he now props himself up and attempts to drag himself around on his front legs. Once he loses weight, he will be fitted for a wheelchair to help him get around.
In the meantime, they are trying to get him a mobility device so he could move around without chafing his stomach on the floor.

“His story is hard to tell and even harder to imagine,” the rescue wrote on Facebook. “Stanley lives for today, but our minds can’t help but wander to Stanley’s past. In our moments of despair, we imagine Stanley trapped on the side of the highway, watching cars speed by, scared, confused and hoping for his people to return.”
But luckily Stanley has been given a second chance and has a team of incredible vets and a loving foster mom to help him on his long weight loss journey.
