Marine son is killed in action, so Mom brings home his canine partner

Sergeant Joshua Ashley had been inseparable from his military police dog Sirius.

Now, because of a wish her son made years ago, Sirius is a permanent part of Ashley’s family. Tragically, though, he can’t be there to see it. CBS Los Angeles put together a remarkable video (embedded below) on how one of a soldier’s last wishes became a reality.

Before Ashley was killed in an IED explosion in Afghanistan, he asked his mother to take care of the dog he had grown so close to in the military.

“I’m gonna have you take him until I get to where I’m going or I get out,” Tammy Ashley remembers her son saying.

The military found out about Joshua’s wish, after he was killed, and agreed to honor it. When Sirius retired from his post with the Military Police in Afghanistan, he was sent home to join the Ashleys.
