One pup has survived an extremely horrifying ordeal thanks to officers from Memphis Animal Services.

When officers arrived, the 68-pound dog, now named McGregor, was exhausted and had basically given up.

It’s unknown how long McGregor had been in the pit before staff at the plant noticed him, but by the looks of how tired he was, he was likely trying to get himself out for quite some time.
Since McGregor was unable to pull himself out, MAS Officer Sutter went down into the slimy meat processing pit to get closer to him. The dog was in so deep that only his head and back legs were showing.
Officer Sutter then attached two long animal control poles together and around the McGregor’s neck. She used the poles to pull him partially up the pit, so that Officer Hunley could pull him all the way out.

Once McGregor was brought to safety, they wrapped him in towels and put him into their truck.
Once out of the meat pit, McGregor was covered in towels and put into the MAS truck. He is now back at MAS and is doing well.
“We decided to name him McGregor after one of the most famous fighters we could think of at the time because he’s a fighter, and he deserves an honorable name,” Officer Sutter told WREG.

McGregor is now up for adoption at MAS in Appling City Cove, where you can meet him daily from 12-4pm and until 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
His adoption fee is $40, which includes his neuter, vaccines, heart-worm treatment, microchip, leash, and collar with a customized ID tag.
