From the outside, Margaret Boisture appeared to be a kind, dedicated dog breeder and the owner of Star Mountain Kennel in Bloomfield, Connecticut. Police say Boisture is far from a good breeder who is concerned about her animals.
It all started when Bloomfield Animal Control Officer Christine Sparks received word that dogs were left outside in the freezing cold overnight.
Sadly, this was the third complaint associated with Star Mountain Kennel, as excessive barking was also reported.

When officers arrived on the scene, Boisture told them they were not allowed to inspect her property. However, a search and seizure warrant was obtained and granted.
During the search, officers found over 40 animals on the property. Fifteen dogs were housed in conditions that violate animal cruelty laws.
A valid kennel license had not been issued to the owners, James and Margaret Boisture, nor to the facility.
Dogs were seen urinating in cages which then trickled down to the dogs below them. The official arrest warrant also indicated “the noise inside this room was deafening, and there was a strong odor of urine and feces.”

Further evidence shows 11 dogs had dental decay requiring surgery or extraction, one had a huge mass on a mammary gland and other health conditions amongst some dogs.
In total, 23 animals were left behind on the property as they were deemed in good health. Officers, however, can do daily animal inspections.
Six dogs were placed with a co-owner and 15 were brought to a veterinary facility for care. They all had overgrown nails, ear abrasions, and dirty coats covered with urine and feces.

Sadly, Margaret Boisture showed dogs in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show years ago. The AKC is not taking a stance on this case, but police have investigated the property before. Boisture has been released on a $75,000 bond.
