The Idaho Humane Society began an investigation after a video surfaced on social media of a girl repeatedly punching a dog.
In the video, which was filmed in Boise, a teenage girl repeatedly punches a German Shepherd in the head and face while wearing boxing gloves.
She punches him at least nine times, while people in the background laugh.
“I hit him so hard, I felt that!” the teenager says in the video, as the dog yelps.
The original video has since been deleted, but many copies remained on the Internet.
The footage caused an uproar, and angry citizens began calling the Idaho Humane Society’s Animal Care and Control office to report it.
IHS immediately launched an investigation, and has since identified the girl in the video, as well as the others involved.
They forwarded their investigation to prosecutors for possible animal abuse charges. The investigation at the prosecutor’s office is still pending review as they make a decision.
The teen faces charges under Idaho’s misdemeanor animal abuse statute, which criminalizes “every person who cruelly whips, beats or otherwise maliciously treats any animal.”
