Police Dog Let Go For Being Too Sweet, Ends Up With The Coolest New Job Instead

Gavel, a German Shepherd, came from a long line of serving pedigree. So, the police in Queensland, Australia, had high hopes when he joined the training academy for a life of fierce crime-fighting.

But, all their hopes hilariously went down the drain when Gavel turned out to be a sweet, social butterfly! So, rather than catching hardened criminals, poor Gavel’s brain was pre-wired to prefer befriending them. Naturally, he got depressed when trained to be tough, and had to be sacked.

While the tough-as-nails police squad didn’t turn out to be the ideal place for Gavel, all hope was not lost. Gavel’s qualities were presented to the Governor of Queensland, the Honorable Paul de Jersey, and without any second thoughts, he was appointed as a vice-regal dog! How cool!

Gavel’s new duties include attending functions and welcoming guests to the Queensland’s Government House, while sporting his very own custom-made ceremonial coat bearing the state’s coat of arms.

Since his new employment, Gavel has brought untold joy to the lives of the people residing in the Governor’s House. He happily takes visiting Queenslanders on tours of the estate, which are occasionally interrupted by him chasing squirrels! We are so inspired by Gavel’s remarkable story of finding his own path in life!
