This furbaby is about as rare a dog as you can find. He’s one of only 13 dogs like him in the world. He’s a purebred German Shepherd with short spine syndrome, an extremely rare condition. As you can imagine, few people wanted a dog like this one… he was a stray who, thankfully, ended up at Secondhand Hounds, a rescue in Minnesota that gives every dog — even those with special needs — a second chance.
They named him Quasimodo, after another famous character who was born different. Quasi may not have the stature of his fellow German Shepherds, but he more than makes up for it in personality and affection. He’s an extremely affectionate cuddlebug who is as gentle a dog as you’ll ever see.
Although he looks like he might be in discomfort, Quasimodo’s condition doesn’t cause him pain. However, he does need surgery to correct his tail, which is corkscrewed. Secondhand Hound says that Quasi isn’t ready for adoption yet, but there’s already a lot of interest in him. We hope he finds a forever home soon!
