Decaying Skeletal Dog Roamed The Streets, Not Knowing What Day Would Be His Last

Bowen thought they had finally caught the dog, but the dog got nervous and bolted. Still, they did not give up their search and wouldn’t until they found him again.

They finally caught him at 1 in the morning using a trap with chicken.

The dog, now named Sawyer, is finally safe and is currently being treated at Animal Medical Corpus Christi. Although he is skin and bones, tested positive for heart worm disease, and may have pneumonia, he is still expected to make a full recovery.

Once he is healthy, he will be fostered and driven to his forever home.

Sadly, the streets of Texas are all too familiar with stray dogs like Sawyer.

“Texas is the number one kill state,” Bowen told Action 10 News. “No other state kills as many dogs as they do. I believe the numbers were at 126,000 dogs that we killed last year in Texas.”
