Ladislau Alcântara and Rosilene Jansen were riding their bicycles one day when they came across a dog. It was a skinny brown Dachshund sitting there right in the middle of the road, and he just looked at them as if to ask for help.

Rosilene thought to reach into her backpack for some bread she’d brought along, and the dog ate it immediately. The couple then thought to ask around about the dog, and they learned the place was a dumping ground for unwanted animals.

Ladislau knew they couldn’t leave the boy behind, so he unzipped his backpack and placed the dog inside for a ride. He kept checking on the dog to make sure he was safe back there as they pedaled along.

Ladislau turned around on the way home and told Rosilene, “Since I have no children, I will have a dog.” 🙂

They would give the dog a much-needed bath and some food and name him Rotivi. And the more time they spent with him, the more attached they became!

Rotivi is now healthy enough to go along with the couple on all of their biking adventures, and he’s the perfect fit for their lives! They may not have known it at the time, but the Dachshund was just what they needed. 🙂
