City Deems Dog ‘Mean,’ Locks Her Up For 4 Years With Just A Bowl To Play With

Imagine your dog nips at someone and suddenly, your dog is taken away from you. Although you are told you will get the dog back after 10 days, almost five years goes by.

Only then, after the dog has been isolated with nothing to play with except a food bowl, are you finally reunited. It sounds like a nightmare, but it’s reality.

This is exactly what happened to Rose the dog and her owner, Glorianne Lagnese.

Sweet Rose was adopted from a Connecticut shelter in 2013. The black dog had a hard time getting adopted due to her color. Lagnese told The Dodo, “She had no confidence in herself. Sometimes she’d hear a noise in the house and she’d run away and hide.”

As time went on, Rose was adapting and adjusting, but then things changed in an instant. Someone broke into Lagnese’s house and let all her dogs loose.

Rose ended up nipping at two people because she was scared. No one was hurt, but neighbors called police. They told her the dog had to be sheltered for 10 days.

After the time had passed, officials told Lagnese that Rose had to be euthanized for being deemed a ‘vicious dog.’

Lagnese was devastated but fought back with an attorney from the Lexus Project, which helps death row dogs. The attorney took the case pro bono.

In the meantime, the dog spent her days and nights locked up, with no toys to play with, no interactions, and only a bowl in her cage to flip around.

Lagnese and her husband were not allowed to get close to the dog either.

Sadly, it took 4-1/2 years for Rose to get out of the pound. Lagnese had to give up her rights to Rose in order for this to happen.

The dog was taken to Furry Friends Roster and Rescue, run by a friend of the family. Rose is being fostered by Allen Szykula, a professional dog trainer, so the courts are happy.

Rose is 7 years old now, doing well, and she will eventually be put up for adoption. We are grateful that people did not give up on this sweet dog and that she is getting her happy ending. Let’s celebrate Rose’s freedom!

Just another isolated day for Rose

To all our new FB friends. Meet Rose. Rose is at the Waterbury dog pound. And this has been her reality day in and day out for the last 4 years. Yet the tail still wags. She still has hope. She heard so many people are working to save her life. The metal bowl is the only possession she has had in 4 years. she still holds the metal bowl and paces in her cell. We brought more packaged chicken for her which gives her a bit of enjoyment. Please keep sharing this because the more people that know about Rose's suffering the better. We will not give up on her. HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP and your HELP is still DESPERATELY NEEDED TO SAVE ROSE ***WE NEED TO SEND EMAILS TO THE JUDGE*** For those new to #FreeRose: http://wgntv.com/2018/06/08/dog-that-hasnt-left-shelters-cage-in-four-years-draws-support-from-around-the-country/Link for sending an email to Judge Alvin W. ThompsonABRAHAM RIBICOFF FEDERAL BUILDINGUnited States Courthouse450 Main Street – Suite 240Hartford, Connecticut 06103Honorable Judge Thompson,Re. Request to transfer custody of Rose (Impound #24 at Waterbury Municipal Pound and listed under Civil No. 3:15-cv-975(AWT)) to Road to Home Rescue, Utica NYWe are concerned citizens for Rose, who has been incarcerated in a concrete cell at the Waterbury pound for four years for a "bite" incident. Rose was once loved as "Rosie". She was once a family dog living with her human and dog companions. She will need rehabilitation after four years of solitary incarceration. We have precedent in 48 of 51 of Michael Vicks dogs that were successfully rehabilitated. According to Best Friends Animal Society, "Though bred to compete in the fighting ring, the dogs rescued from the property of professional football player Michael Vick went on to become champions of resiliency. Their astonishing courage proved that there's no such thing as "too damaged" or "beyond hope." And that no dog is inherently vicious, no matter her breed or background."Rose has spent more than four years in solitary imprisonment at Waterbury pound in a concrete cell with no human contact. Dogs are social animals and Rose has suffered more than enough. Dogs are resilient and we owe Rose a chance at life and freedom. Rose's advocates have found a safe place for her to go and once again be loved. Road to Home Rescue in Utica, NY is willing to rehabilitate Rose and will list city of Waterbury as additionally insured so the city has zero liability. We respectfully beg you to hear our case, be Rose's Champion and make a humane decision to transfer custody of Rose to Road to Home Rescue, Utica, NY.Sincerely,________________OTHER ACTIONS TO HELP ROSE Keep calling Keep emailing.
