This has been a very unpredictable year, so it came as no surprise to a dog breeder in Italy when one of his litters produced a green puppy.
Italian farmer Christian Mallocci reported his dog, Spelacchia, gave birth to a healthy litter of five puppies but one of them was distinctively green.
He says green puppies are very rare, but there is a physical explanation of why this occurred.

While he was in the womb, the puppy made contact with a green pigment called biliverdin.
As a result of the green coloring, Mallocci named the pup Pistachio but wants folks to know the green coloring won’t last much longer.
As time goes on, the greenish hue will fade away and his normal beautiful white coloring will fill in.

According to Mental Floss, the intestinal matter in the fetus is called meconium and it contains mostly water but also the biliverdin that caused Pistachio to temporarily turn green.
This is not the first time a puppy was born this color, as another pooch named “Hulk” was born green earlier this year, too.

Mr. Mallocci decided to give all of the puppies away but he is definitely keeping little Pistachio who will help him herd sheep on his farm in Italy.
He commented that since green is a lucky color, perhaps we all could use some good luck in our lives. Press play on the video below to see this pint-sized shamrock.

Sadly, Dobermans are known more for their ferocity than their smarts, but these are considered among the most intelligent dogs in the world, as well as one of the most effective guard dogs around. They’re outstanding students known to be affectionate and obedient.
9. Bloodhound

Don’t let the wrinkles and dopey expression fool you! Bloodhounds have the keenest of noses, and are often used for trailing (so much so that their evidence can be used in court against you!). These are loving but strong-willed dogs, and are often used on search and rescue missions.
10. Australian Cattle Dog

You need a smart, determined and energetic dog to control unruly cows. And that’s just what the Australian Cattle Dog, or ACD, does. They’re intelligent enough to herd these much larger creatures, and while they need their independence and wide open spaces, they’re eager workers who know how to get the job done.
