Bait Dog Was Too Depressed To Lift Her Head Before, But All That Has Changed!

The dog was used as a dog-fighting bait..

Rescuers from the SPCA of Texas had stumbled upon at least 14 dogs at a suspected dog-fighting operation located in Able Springs, Texas back in August.

One of the rescuers, Madeline Yeaman, walked up to the site – all of the dogs jumped around, obviously wanting her attention and affection.

All of the dogs, but one. That’s when they noticed her. Emaciated and severely hydrated, the dog was close to knocking at death’s door. She had a giant collar clamped to her neck, bounding her to a heavy chain weighed down by an old car axle. She had no shelter to hide from the scorching heat either.

Gwen was skinny and frail for a dog of her size. She was also severely malnourished and poorly cared for.

It was up to the SPCA staff to bring her away from this horrible place and into a better environment Gwen greatly needed.

She was in such a bad condition that she was actually too weak to even move! It took quite some time for her to stand up, as she wanted to do was to sit down. The veterinarian examined this poor dog, and was shocked that she had almost no blood pumping through her veins.

Named after Gwen Stefani, Gwen the dog started undergoing medical treatment to get her health back on track. The first thing the vets did was to hose off her cracked and wounded skin, which was infested with fleas.

Gwen was also given multiple blood transfusions, as well as some food and water.

As the days went by, Gwen regained her strength. Gwen was no longer lethargic and silent. She now greets everyone with a wiggling body, wagging tail and a dashing trademark Pit Bull smile!

As her body heals, Gwen’s spirit began to shine and she started breaking out of her shell. Today, she enjoys running around outside and enjoys receiving human love and attention from all those she meets.

Gwen is greatly loved all day long, and enjoys the great outdoors more than anything else.

Gwen has an announcement! <3

Each day Gwen’s beautiful smile warms our heart! She has come a long way from being the lonely, skinny, and scared dog we first met on that hot summer day. Gwen is now at a healthy weight, loves to play, and has a shiny coat that would make most girls jealous. The best part of this update is that as of today, Gwen is available for adoption! None of this would be possible without you, so please help us on our mission to save more animals like Gwen by making a donation to the SPCA of Texas on September 22, 2016 during North Texas Giving Day. Thank you for your #NTXGivingDay support!
