$6 Million Superbowl Ad Runs Today By Dog Owner To Thank His Vet For Saving His Dog’s Life

Scout the Golden Retriever, who belongs to WeatherTech’s CEO David MacNeil, is no rookie to being in the spotlight. Last year, he starred in WeatherTech’s commercial, showing off their new line of non-toxic pet bowls.

He seemed happy and healthy, but sadly this past July, Scout suddenly collapsed one day. He was rushed to the vet, where they discovered a tumor at the base of his heart that was constricting his blood flow.

Vets gave him a month to live with a one percent chance of survival, but MacNeil refused to give up on his beloved fur baby.

Scout was then transferred to the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, where they ended up saving his life.

Scout went through radiation therapy, plus chemotherapy and immunotherapy, which helped shrink the tumor and prevented it from growing back.

This year, Scout is the star of yet another WeatherTech commercial, except this one, called “Lucky Dog,” is MacNeil’s way of saying thank you to the vets at UWSVM who saved his dog’s life.

The commercial, ‘narrated’ by Scout, tells the dog’s journey from stardom to patient, and shows him on the UW machine where he received radiation therapy. It also shows him running happily on a beach in Florida, looking healthier than ever before.

The commercial will air during the Super Bowl, a 30-second spot that cost MacNeil $5.5 million, but the vets saving Scout’s life was priceless.

MacNeil encourages people to donate to the medical school, and that 100 percent of donations on his website will go directly to the school.
